This wonderful tour takes you to the most beautiful places of Botswana and Zimbabwe.

Starting in Johannesburg, we travel to Botswana where you will have time to meet the fascinating San people. After this you will explore the Okavango Delta and the Chobe River, some of Africa’s best places to spot wildlife. The tour continues to Zimbabwe where your first stop will be the mighty Victoria Falls where the available activities are limitless. Next, it is time for Hwange National Park for some more wildlife. The last stop before heading back to Johannesburg is the Great Zimbabwe Ruins which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

14 Day Botswana and Zimbabwe Overland

Day 1

Johannesburg – Kang

Leaving behind the city of Johannesburg, we travel through the North-West Province to the Botswana border. After completing border formalities, we continue on the Trans-Kalahari highway to our overnight stop in the small village of Kang, the gateway to the Kalahari.

Day 2

Kang – Ghanzi

After breakfast, we venture deeper into the Central Kalahari and our camp in the Ghanzi district, here we will spend time getting to know the fascinating San people. After lunch, we will join our San guides for a guided walk that will introduce us to the many secrets of their survival in the Kalahari Desert. The nomadic San are hunter-gatherers that have passed down a rich knowledge of the plants and animals that play such an important part in their lifestyle. This evening we will get a first-hand experience of the San culture, well known for its rich traditions of song, dance and story-telling.

Day 3

Ghanzi – Maun

This morning we bid farewell to the San and make our way to Maun, gateway to the Okavango Delta. Your guides will brief you this evening on what you will need for the upcoming Delta Excursions, please note that baggage restrictions apply for transfers to our camps so a small daypack or similar is advisable.

Day 4

Okavango Delta

This morning we embark on our exploration of the Okavango Delta, one of Africa’s great wilderness areas. This unique and unusual ecosystem sees the annual flood waters of the Okavango River fan out into the sands of the Kalahari Basin. The seasonality of the flood waters lends the Delta its ever-changing character. While water levels may fluctuate the tranquillity of this wilderness area remains constant.

Day 5

Okavango Delta

A full day is set aside to enjoy the activities on offer in the Delta, while the programme of activities is flexible to accommodate the seasonal changes in water levels, you will have the opportunity to enjoy amongst other activities traditional Mokoro rides and natures walks. The Okavango Delta is not only a natural wonder, but represents one of the last unspoilt wilderness areas in the world today.

Day 6

Okavango Delta – Katima Mulilo

Leaving the Delta behind us this morning we make our way across the border into Namibia and travel to the Caprivi Strip, part of our day is spent travelling through wildlife areas and there is always the possibility of a lucky sighting. We overnight a short distance from the Botswana border as we prepare for an exciting day of activities in the Chobe National Park tomorrow.

Day 7

Katima Mulilo – Kasane

We enjoy our breakfast in Namibia this morning before returning to Botswana and our camp on the banks of the Chobe River. Lunch will be served from the truck and the afternoon is set aside for exploring the Chobe National Park. We begin our exploration in 4×4 vehicles, which allows us an up close and personal experience with the many Elephants that frequent the Chobe riverfront in the afternoons. The day ends with a leisurely Boat Cruise and a meal served around the campfire.

Day 8

Kasane – Victoria Falls

With the memories of our wildlife encounters firmly etched in our minds, we cross the border to Zimbabwe this morning and travel the short distance to Victoria Falls. Today we visit the spectacular Victoria Falls, also known by the local name of “Mosi-oa Tunya” (the smoke that thunders). While much of today is dedicated to viewing the mighty Zambezi River as it drops into the Batoka Gorge below, the bustling adventure town of Victoria Falls also offers a range of optional activities for those wanting a dose of adrenaline in the afternoon. For the more relaxed traveller there are craft markets to explore and a delicious high tea is on offer at the Victoria Falls Hotel. Tonight, we enjoy an optional dinner out, your guide will assist you to decide on the many options available.

Victoria Falls

With the many activities on offer in Victoria Falls, today is the perfect day for the adventure that most suits your style. Whether rafting the mighty Zambezi River or enjoying a flight over the Falls, this is your day to enjoy the many attractions on offer in Victoria Falls.

Day 10

Victoria Falls – Hwange National Park

This morning we leave the rumble and adventure of Victoria Falls behind us as we make the journey south to Hwange National Park. After lunch, we spend the afternoon exploring Hwange National Park in open game-viewing vehicles. Hwange is the largest of Zimbabwe’s national parks and offers excellent opportunities for viewing the diversity of wildlife that calls the park home. We return to camp this evening and enjoy dinner around our campfire.

Day 11

Hwange National Park – Matopos National Park

After breakfast, we continue south towards Bulawayo, the second largest city in Zimbabwe. Our afternoon will be spent exploring the Matopos National Park with a local guide. The park received recognition as a UNESCO natural World Heritage Site in 2003 and includes an intensive protection zone that is home to both Black and White Rhinoceros. Named after the Ndebele word “Matobo “, whose meaning “bald heads” refers to the rounded granite hills that surround it. We return to Bulawayo and our overnight stop for the night.

Day 12

Matopos National Park – Great Zimbabwe Ruins

Our journey today takes us to Masvingo and the Great Zimbabwe Ruins. This afternoon we will enjoy a guided walking tour of this historic site. Dating back to the Late Iron Age, this UNESCO World Heritage Site was once the capital of the Kingdom of Zimbabwe. We take time this afternoon to marvel at the intricate stone work and experience the heritage of this monument to early Zimbabwean civilisation.

Day 13

Great Zimbabwe Ruins – Tshipise

Leaving the sites of Zimbabwe behind we cross the Limpopo River and enter South Africa this afternoon. Our overnight stop allows us an opportunity to end the day with a swim in the hot springs of Tshipise.

Day 14

Tshipise – Johannesburg

This morning we take the highway south to Johannesburg, we arrive at our final destination in the late afternoon and all travellers are invited to join us for a traditional Braai tonight, this can be booked with your guide on the day before arrival. Many great tales are shared around the braai fires and tonight presents an opportunity to join fellow travellers in celebrating the many wonders of African travel.
