With the success of their good ol’ Purple wine route with a hop-on-hop-off option at Constantia Nek, City Sightseeing South Africa have added on a full-day Cape Explorer tour to the winelands.
There are almost 700 wine estates in the Western Cape and so little time on all our hands so knock two top estates off your list with this wine-tasting experience. Learning about the history of viticulture in South Africa and the two towns you will encounter – Stellenbosch and charming Franschoek – the tour begins in Cape Town first stopping at Blouberg for the classic Table Mountain photo and then on to two wine estates, as well as two hours free to explore the town of Franschoek .
Once you’re well and truly away from the city and in the winelands, stop one is Anura Estate where there is a choice between tasting wine and a cellar tour afterwards, or a craft beer tasting. Next up after marvelling at this young, but top quality farm, is the scenic drive to Franschoek with commentary of the town’s French influences and of course time for some lunch, shopping, sight-seeing or even an additional wine-tasting. These activities are at your own personal expense. The final tasting occurs at Velgenoegd Estate just in time for the world-famous Indian Runner Duck parade where over 700 guardians of the farms return to their pen for the day.
The tour begins at 8am and approximate returning time to Cape Town is 5:30pm. It is also guided in English throughout the drive in an air-conditioned and Wi-Fi enabled coach so you can share your experiences instantly.
