Staying at a backpackers in Cape Town can seem a little intimidating at first, South Africa means danger around every corner to the majority of foreigners. We understand that it can be tough to get to know people at first. This is why we host our weekly pool competition every Tuesday evening at Ashanti Lodge and it is not short of friends, free shooters or fun.

Backpacking in South Africa can be a crazy melting pot of foreigners from around the world, some have never met one another before and some will continue to travel together long after a Tuesday Pool Comp. It is a great way to get to know a more about who is staying at Ashanti Lodge and what their stories are.

The all expenses paid prizes to be won, are as follows: An abseiling down the side of Table Mountain, a Winelands tour all the way from Stellenbosch to Paarl, a Township tour of Langa and Gugulethu or a Peninsula tour to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope. These complementary tours are all booked through our on-site Travel Centre.

This is not a test of your pool playing skills but of your character. There are no standard pool rules that apply here, as with many of life’s rules that don’t apply in South Africa. TIA.

Putting down a drink or two at our Kumasi Café before heading off to write your version of the Hangover always goes down well. With Table Mountain in our backyard, Lion’s Head right next door and Long Street within stumbling distance, it is safe to say that we are the best located backpackers in Cape Town.
Scrumptious light meals served at the Café are an essential before heading off on your next excursion, and a buffet breakfast the next morning that would help the most daring of cowboys to recover after a night out at the local saloon.
