Starting in Windhoek we make our way to Etosha in search of the local wildlife. From here we make our way south via Swakopmund and into the Namib Naukluft National Park where we will visit Sossusvlei and the Deadvlei. We make our way back up to Windhoek via the Kalahari where you will get on a plane to Victoria Falls. From here we make our way to Kasane and Chobe National Park, before heading South into the Okavango Delta. We make our way via the Kalahari again and down to South Africa, where this tour ends in Joburg.

22 Day Namibia to Botswana Luxury Overland

Day 1

Windhoek – Etosha National Park

Welcome to Namibia and its capital, Windhoek. This morning, after meeting your crew, we pack our bags into our vehicle and set off for Etosha National Park. Arriving in the early afternoon, our game viewing experience starts immediately with a game drive to camp. After settling in to our accommodation you will have some time to experience the camp’s waterhole before departing on our night game drive in open 4×4 vehicles with the local guides through the park.

Day 2

Etosha National Park

Today is all about game driving and going in search of the abundant wildlife in the park. Our day will include a stop at the Etosha Pan and many waterholes. This evening you can relax at the floodlit waterhole as the animals make their way to drink after dark.

Day 3

Etosha National Park – Brandberg

Our final morning in Etosha ends with an early morning game drive as we make our way to the gate to exit the park. The road today leads us towards the Brandberg / Khorixas area where we will have the opportunity to view the highest mountain in Namibia, Brandberg. Known for it’s glowing colour, sometimes visible at sunset, derived from Afrikaans, Dutch and German means “Fire Mountain”.

Day 4

Brandberg – Swakopmund

This morning we will enjoy a guided walk at Spitzkoppe with a local guide, for an exploration of these fascinating landforms. These massive granite formations tower 700 meters above the desert plains and the presence of rock art indicates their significance to the San people who lived here many years ago. After our walk, we head towards the coastal town of Swakopmund where we will stop en-route at the famous Welwitchia Mirabilis which is over 2,000 years old.

Day 5

Swakopmund

Today is all about exploring Swakopmund or participating in the many activities on offer in this coastal town. Not to be missed is the selection of famed coffee shops and bakeries that offer a delightful range of treats.

Day 6

Swakopmund – Namib Naukluft National Park

It is an early start today as we leave Swakopmund and head towards the famous Namib Naukluft National Park. No visit to Namibia would be complete without a stop at the famous bakery in Solitaire, known for its apple pie – not to be missed. We will enjoy our apple pie and a wonder around this one-horse town before heading to our accommodation for the next 2 nights.

Day 7

Namib Naukluft National Park

It is a busy day today as we venture deeper into the Namib desert, starting off with a transfer into Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. After walking around and discovering this area, we will make a stop at Dune 45, the highest dune in Namibia. The brave amongst us can climb to the top – the views will not disappoint the efforts. As we leave, we will make a short stop at Sesriem Canyon before returning to our accommodation for the night.

Day 8

Namib Naukluft National Park – Maltahohe

We leave the wonderful Namib Desert behind us and will make our way towards Maltahohe. Today we will meet the Nama community. For thousands of years, the Khoisan peoples of South Africa and southern Namibia maintained a nomadic life, the Khoikhoi as pastoralists and the San people as hunter-gatherers. The Nama are a Khoikhoi group. This afternoon we have join a sundowner nature drive to enjoy a true Namibia sunset.

Day 9

Maltahohe – Kalahari

We make our way towards the Kalahari, one of the most beautiful parts of Namibia and a must see. Enjoy the beauty of the deep red dunes colours. You might spot several types of antelope’s like the Oryx. Maybe you can even spot a meerkat.

Day 10

Kalahari

Enjoy the sights and sounds of the Kalahari today as you participate in the various optional activities on offer. Today is for you to enjoy the area. One of the many highlights of the Kalahari is the star gazing and tonight you get the opportunity to view the stars, planets, clusters and depending on the time of month, the moon.

Day 11

Kalahari – Windhoek

After breakfast we bid farewell to the red sand of the Kalahari and make our way back to Windhoek. Tonight presents itself with a final opportunity to soak in the Namibian sunset on an evening sunset drive with sundowners.

Day 12

Windhoek

After breakfast you will be saying goodbye to your crew that showed you the beautiful Namibia. Your crew will transfer you to the centre of Windhoek. Today you have all the time to explore Windhoek and to see some of the well-known landmarks or to relax at your hotel. Tonight you can take the opportunity to have dinner at Joe’s Beerhouse.

Windhoek – Victoria Falls

Today you will be leaving Namibia to fly to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe to continue your adventure. We have organised an airport transfer for you that will pick you up from your hotel (the pick-up time will depend on the time of your flight).

Day 14

Victoria Falls

Today you will be meeting your new crew and travellers and you visit the spectacular Victoria Falls, also known by the local name of “Mosi-oa Tunya” (the smoke that thunders). While much of today is dedicated to viewing the mighty Zambezi River as it drops into the Batoka Gorge below, the bustling adventure town of Victoria Falls also offers a range of optional activities for those wanting a dose of adrenaline in the afternoon. For the more relaxed traveller there are craft markets to explore and a delicious high tea is on offer at the Victoria Falls Hotel. Tonight we enjoy an optional dinner out, your guide will assist you to decide on the many options available.

Day 15

Victoria Falls – Kasane

After breakfast we travel the short distance to the Botswana border, crossing into Botswana we set up camp on the banks of the Chobe River.
Our afternoon is set aside for exploring the Chobe National Park. For those who have purchased the Activity Package we begin our exploration in 4×4 vehicles, which allows us an up close and personal experience with the many elephants that frequent the Chobe riverfront in the afternoons. The afternoon ends with a leisurely boat cruise and a meal served around the campfire.

Day 16

Kasane – Nata

We leave Kasane and travel south towards Nata. Some people also call this route the “game drive route”, as you might see some wildlife while travelling through the area. Upon arrival we will be able to relax and spend some time at the lodge. If times allows we have some activities available to enjoy at sunset.

Day 17

Nata – Maun (Gateway to the Okavango Delta)

Our journey today takes us across the northern reaches of the Makgadigadi Pans, the road from Nata to Maun is lined with majestic examples of the iconic Baobab tree and we will catch glimpses of the extensive pans that stretch out to the South. As portion of our route bisects the Nxai Pan and Makgadigadi National Parks, if we are lucky we may encounter some of the wildlife that roams this vast protected area.

Day 18

Okavango Delta

The Okavango Delta is a unique and unusual ecosystem which sees the annual flood waters of the Okavango River fan out into the sands of the Kalahari Basin. The seasonality of the flood waters lends the Delta its ever changing character. While water levels may fluctuate the tranquillity of this wilderness area remains constant. This morning we board our plane and take a scenic flight over the Delta to our overnight accommodation for the next two nights.

Day 19

Okavango Delta

A full day is set aside to enjoy the activities on offer in the Delta, while the programme of activities is flexible to accommodate the seasonal
changes in water levels, you will have the opportunity to enjoy amongst other activities traditional makoro rides, nature walks a game drive and a boat cruise. The Okavango Delta is not only a natural wonder, but represents one of the last great wilderness areas in the world today.

Day 20

Okavango Delta – Central Kalahari

Leaving the Delta behind us this morning we make our way to our overnight stop in the Ghanzi district in the central Kalahari. Upon arrival you will experience the very unique dancing and storytelling activity.

Day 21

Central Kalahari – Kang

We will leave the Central Kalahari and the San community. The nomadic San are hunter-gatherers that have passed down a rich knowledge of the plants and animals that play such an important part in their lifestyle. This afternoon we travel south on the Trans-Kalahari highway to our overnight stop in the small town of Kang, the gateway to the Kalahari.

Day 22

Kang – Johannesburg

A long day awaits us as we continue our journey south to Johannesburg and South Africa. Leaving the Kalahari behind we cross the North-West Province, arriving at Belvedere Estate in the late afternoon. All travellers are invited to join us tonight for an optional traditional meal, this can be booked with your guide on the day before arrival. Many great tales are shared and tonight presents an opportunity to join fellow travellers in celebrating the many wonders of African travel.
