Namibia Windhoek

WINDHOEK

The Capital of Namibia and largest city in the country is Windhoek. Situated in the middle of Namibia, this city has an international airport and is often used as a gateway town for many of our overland tours. It is a quaint capital city growing at a respective rate, with a population of under half million residents. Whilst it may not be as densely populated as other African capitals, it is the economic, social and cultural hub of Namibia.

Windhoek is rich in colonial history, having predominately been under German rule from the late 19th century and known as German South West Africa during that period. However, during the first World War British colonials took over and declared occupancy. In 1990 Namibia ended the apartheid regime and got independence and Windhoek in particular has been developing at an accelerated pace.

Activities in the Namibian capital include horse-back riding, exploring the idyllic botanical gardens, indulging in scenic hot air ballooning, Katutura Township guided tours, going to one of the many museums on offer, and visiting the Namibia craft centre. There are also many vibrant restaurants available to dine in that offer various local delicacies that are sure to satisfy your taste buds.

So if Windhoek is a destination that appeals to you when planning your Namibia tour, then let Ashanti Travel Online assist with making bookings and ensuring that your trip is exactly the way you would like it to be.
