Namibia Windhoek

WINDHOEK

The Capital of Namibia and largest city in the country is Windhoek. Situated in the middle of Namibia, this city has an international airport and is often used as a gateway town for many of our overland tours. It is a quaint capital city growing at a respective rate, with a population of under half million residents. Whilst it may not be as densely populated as other African capitals, it is the economic, social and cultural hub of Namibia.

Windhoek is rich in colonial history, having predominately been under German rule from the late 19th century and known as German South West Africa during that period. However, during the first World War British colonials took over and declared occupancy. In 1990 Namibia ended the apartheid regime and got independence and Windhoek in particular has been developing at an accelerated pace.

Activities in the Namibian capital include horse-back riding, exploring the idyllic botanical gardens, indulging in scenic hot air ballooning, Katutura Township guided tours, going to one of the many museums on offer, and visiting the Namibia craft centre. There are also many vibrant restaurants available to dine in that offer various local delicacies that are sure to satisfy your taste buds.

So if Windhoek is a destination that appeals to you when planning your Namibia tour, then let Ashanti Travel Online assist with making bookings and ensuring that your trip is exactly the way you would like it to be.

The Great Wildebeest Migration is a continuous movement of over two million wildebeest, accompanied by large groups of zebra and gazelles. This massive group of wildlife is looking for food and water, which results in the animals following the rains. The movement mainly moves through the Serengeti Nature Reserve in Tanzania up into the Masai Mara in Kenya.  The crossing of the Grumeti and Mara river provide spectacular sightings of confused legions of swimming wildebeest and hungry crocodile encounters. As they cross the Mara river, the wildebeest enter the Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya. Where they feed on [...]

The moment the instructor opens the door and you are about to jump out the plane – the what am I doing question hits you. Before you can answer it, you are crashing through the sky at 200 kilometres per hour. The freefall is an indescribable and sensational feeling. The rest of the descent was fantastic as well as you can steer the parachute yourself. I will tell more about my experience during my tandem skydive further on this blog. Due to weather conditions, it was uncertain if we could jump at our current time slot at [...]

October 23rd, 2019|Categories: Budget Safaris, Kruger National Park, News, South Africa|0 Comments

A few seconds is all that it takes to see spectacular wildlife encounters in the Kruger National Park. I witnessed this first hand on the 4 Day Budget Kruger Safari when a lioness jumped an impala s soon as we entered the park. Unfortunately, most of my group missed this spectacular sighting while being distracted by a group of lion cubs on the other side of the vehicle. The endless bush of the park makes this wildlife encounters extra rare, and it makes it an unforgettable sighting. Further, in this blog, I will tell more about my sightings and [...]
