South Africa Garden Route

This stunning area stretches along the eastern coast line of South Africa from Mossel Bay in the Western Cape to Storms River on the border of the Eastern Cape.  The Garden Route is one of the most exquisite and exceptional spots you will find. It is a highlight for most travellers to South Africa and when you visit the picturesque towns en route, you will understand why. While discovering the Garden Route, you should make sure to take a dip in the warm water of the Indian Ocean, go whale watching, explore some of the majestic forests and visit untouched national parks that host a variety of wildlife.

Main attractions on the Garden Route include visiting Oudtshoorn, a small town known for ostrich rides, scenic hikes and the Cango Caves – 200 million year old lime stone caves that are a natural landmark in South Africa.

Mossel Bay is a great spot to visit for Great White Shark cage diving. It also has a unique Portuguese history from when sailors stumbled across the area over 500 years ago.

The Wilderness is a popular beach town to visit for nature lovers. It has a beautiful white sandy beach and a lagoon that stretches deep inland, a dense forest with spectacular view points as well as waterfall hikes. There are also many rivers to enjoy canoeing and this area is known as the home of the rarely seen Cape Mountain Leopard.

Knysna is a trendy and prosperous town with its own unique flair. Key activities are visiting the Elephant Park, driving to a stunning view point called the Knysna Heads, exploring the Knysna forest and indulging in delicious seafood at one of the many trendy restaurants the waterfront has to offer.  Knysna also hosts the renowned annual Oyster Festival in the beginning of July.

Plettenberg Bay, Natures Valley and Storms River are the final spots to visit along the Garden Route. Plett, as it is more commonly referred to by locals is a great town to go surfing, kite boarding or stand up paddling (basically if you love water sports, then this town is for you!)

Natures Valley is an untouched small beach village with a national park, waterfalls, lagoon and forests on offer – it is really one of the most striking of all the villages the Garden Route has to offer. Storms River is in the captivating Tsitsikamma National Park and borders the Eastern Cape where you can go bungee jumping off Bloukrans bridge, kayaking up the river mouth or black water tubing on river rapids.
