KAMPALA

A truly unique African capital city with bustling charm and east African flair, is Kampala. It lies in the south central part of Uganda and is home to over a million residents. It is close to main attractions such as Lake Victoria and Jinja, one of the adventure capitals of East Africa.

Kampala much like the rest of Uganda is known to have some of the friendliest residents in Africa, so while exploring this region be sure to expect many locals wanting to engage in an interesting conversation. The climate is mostly hot and humid for the duration of the year with regular rainfall, so packing light clothes with a suitable rain jacket is advisable when travelling around the city.

The metropolis has many festive bars and nightclubs with live bands and inexpensive local beers on offer. There are also loads of trendy restaurants to eat at with local and international foods. It is one of Africa’s greenest cities boasting an impressive amount of golf courses, gardens and public parks. Kampala is relatively safe as well, so if you’re travelling alone that won’t be a problem.

Attractions include the historical Kasubi Tombs, which are a World Heritage Site. Gain insight into the tribal culture and history of the city by exploring the many museums on offer and popping in at the Lubiri Palace which was the former seat of the Buganda Kingdom. Visit the busy and colourful Owino Market for the best deals on authentic locally made products like printed fabric.  Half day or full day boat trips on Lake Victoria are also a highlight and not too far from Kampala.
