There are plenty of enjoyable activities to do in Cape Town on a rainy day.  Chat to the reception desk where you stay in Cape Town and they will give you more info on these ideas:

1. Visit Museums

Explore the Iziko South African Museum, the District Six Museum, or the Cape Town Science Centre for interesting exhibits and cultural insights.  Some of them have free entry on certain days.

2. Go to the Two Oceans Aquariuim

This fascinating aquarium at the V&A Waterfront showcases marine life from the Atlantic and Indian Oceans.  Feed the penguins or dive with the sharks in the shark tank.

3. Check Out Art Galleries

Visit the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) or smaller galleries in the city for some amazing artworks.  Free entry for South Africans on a Wednesday.

4. Enjoy Indoor Markets

The V&A Waterfront has a variety of indoor markets where you can shop for local crafts, food, and souvenirs.  The Oranjezicht Farmers Market is also open on a Wednesday and Saturday and the Mojo Market in Sea Point has lots  of entertaining events.

5. CafƩ Hopping

Spend time in some of the cityā€™s cozy cafĆ©s, enjoying a warm drink and some local pastries or treats.  Some of them do traditional South African meals  – try a bunny chow!

6. Visit Historical Landmarks

Take a guided tour of places like the Castle of Good Hope or the District Six Museum.  The free walking tours go rain or shine, so if you don’t mind getting wet you can still take a walk around the city.

7. Discover the Companyā€™s Garden

While it may be wet outside, strolling through the sheltered parts of the garden offers a beautiful experience.  There are lots of squirrels and you can buy nuts from the vendors to feed them….. keep an eye out for the special Albino one šŸ™‚

8. Indoor Rock Climbing:

If youā€™re feeling adventurous, try indoor rock climbing at spots like CityROCK Cape Town.  There are also indoor adventure centres like Rush and Ninja.

9. Cooking Classes

Participate in a cooking class to learn how to make local dishes.    There are lots of local ladies opening their kitchens to tourists.

10. Spa Day or Turkish Baths

Treat yourself to a relaxing spa day at one of Cape Town’s many wellness centers.  The Long Street Baths also offer Turkish Baths (with a massage) at a very reasonable rate… .males and females are on alternate days.  

11. BONUS POINT – Hang out at Ashanti

Chat to fellow travellers to plan what to do when the sun is shining ā€“ which it will do!!  Enjoy a beer in our bar and figure out where to from here.
